INTERVIEW w/ Mike Stud - LFOD excluuusive

OK yall. This post will be in english, due to the fact that this will be interesting for everyone. The upcoming Rap Genius MIKE STUD, who started a big run in 2011 and is growing bigger & bigger in the biz, did an interview for you guys with me. I talked about almost everything with him. Music, Big Deals and some informations of his upcoming mixtape. His two tracks "College Humor" and "In this life" are blowing up so watch out for him, this will be his year and I forsee an XXL Freshman Nomination, maybe even bigger things. Anyway, here is the awesome interview, have fun reading it!

LFOD: How come that you do rap? Was that always your passion?

MIKE: Ah I just kind of fell into it man. I was always a baseball player, and never did anything musically. I always loved music, and was a huge hip-hop head, but I honestly didn’t ever try to rap until about 6 months ago. From there it just kind of all snow-balled into what it is now. Pretty crazy.

LFOD: Do you experience the same like Asher Roth when he started? You know the whole "meh just another Eminen" comparison.

MIKE: I think that when Asher did it, he had to deal with that comparison a whole lot more than the kids nowadays. He was the first white-boy, college rapper. Presently, there are A LOT of those, and it is actually its own genre now (Frat-rap). I think the stereotype now is, all of these college white-boy rappers are the same, and are all bunched together as one big group. So the challenge today is separating yourself from that group, and making a name for yourself outside of the college, white-boy, frat-rapper category.

LFOD: So you obviously love college! Whats your favorite class? And drinking game?

MIKE: Definitely love college, but I would say that I definitely do not love class. Haha. If I had to pick a favorite I would say Business or more specifically “Sports Economics/Business.” Favorite drinking game would have to be beer pong.

LFOD: If you could choose one act to do a collab with, who would it be?

MIKE: For the short term, I’d love to collab with Mac Miller. I think he’s a real talented dude. In the long term, I’d love to collab with Drake or Big Sean. Hands down, my two favorite artists.

LFOD: What can we expect from your mixtape?

MIKE: You can expect 10-12 tracks that I feel are perfect. By the time the mixtape is done, I’m hoping to have a very versatile project with all different types of songs, all within my style. I wont release it until I think every song is dope, and up to par with the singles I’ve put out to date.

LFOD: You seem like the master of using sports-player comparisons. Did ESPN already call to get you doing an intro rap for weekly throwbacks?
Would you do some big business related thing or do you want to keep it indie?

MIKE: Haha, well I”ve been an athlete my whole life, and I love watching sports and am always on ESPN. So the punchlines that come to me easiest are those that involve sports and recent news from the athletic world. Some people love it and some dislike it, but I will never stray from that style. Someone who I idolize is Wale, and he is a lyricist who makes a ton of sports references as well. So, you can expect sports references from me for as long as I am doing this.
-To answer your question about ESPN, I have not been contacted by them haha. If they did, I would 100% be interested. That’d be awesome!

LFOD: Which artist is your greatest inspiration?

MIKE: Drake. I see Drake as the complete musician. He can rap and sing, and he can basically do any type of song in the book. I aspire to be as versatile as he is. He’s definitely my favorite artist.

LFOD: What kind of beat do you prefer to rap on. The smooth and jazzy/soul ones or the heavy hitting ones.

MIKE: I really prefer hard hitting beats, that I can just attack with punchlines and flow, but I understand that being versatile with the beats you choose and the songs you put out is a huge part of becoming successful in music. So I pick and choose my spots strategically as far as beat selection goes.

LFOD: Imagine you are cast away and can only choose 3 tracks to listen to there, which 3 would it be?

MIKE:
  • Big Sean- Too fake
  • Drake feat. Jay Z- Light up
  • Mike Stud feat. Loggy - In this Life

LFOD: Who else do you think is big in the newcomer hip hop business right now?

MIKE: There are tons of great young artists coming out right now but if I had to pick one I’d say Hoodie Allen. Guys like Mac Miller and Sammy Adams have surpassed the “up and coming” label. Those dudes have made it. When your selling out tours, I think its safe to say you’ve made it.

LFOD: You used a Ratatat song as beat for your first track. do think indie and hip hop would work good together?

MIKE: I think you see a good amount of indie flavor in hip hop, and to me, I think they compliment each other very well.

LFOD: Where are you heading to? one day a grammy for best album?

MIKE: I honestly have no idea. I truly believe that I can someday accomplish that. I will continue to make good music and release it to the world, from there, I guess it’s up to the people/fans. But I will say, I definitely have very high aspirations for the future.

LFOD: Have you ever been to germany? want to visit the land of wieners, beer and bretzels?

MIKE: Never been to Germany, but I’d love to. Fly me out for a show! Haha.

LFOD: A female fan wants to ask you "lights on or off?"

MIKE: haha wow. You know, to be honest, I’m an in-between guy. I think a dimly lit setting is ideal. If its too bright, then it’s kind of weird, and if its too dark then things can get complicated haha.

LFOD: The closing words are yours mike:

MIKE: I’m truly honored to do this interview for you guys. It’s actually very shocking and flattering that my music has made it overseas to Germany. I guess nowadays with the Internet, anything is possible.

Thanks so much for supporting my music, and I’m so glad ya’ll like it. I have so much more music to come, so stay tuned. Hopefully one day in the future, I’ll be doing a show out there. Again, thanks for the support and take care!

- so guys, go to Facebook, like his page, write something nice on his wall and be part of something. Maybe in 1 or 2 years, this guy is doing sold-out tours all over the place.

INTERVIEW w/ Brian Lindsay

LFOD: So you have recently moved to America and already played some shows there. If you compare clubs/clubbing there with clubs in Germany, where are the biggest differences?

Brian: One of the biggest differences is the mixture of electronic genres that are all played at one event. It's not out of the ordinary to play/go to a party where you will hear electro, tech house, and drum and bass all in the same night on the same dance floor.

LFOD: What are ravers in the U.S. currently listening to? Kinda the same things we listen to or something new/else?

Brian: A lot of the stuff they are listening to is the same things you guys are over in Germany. What's really cool, is how the people are so open to almost everything. I love blowing the crowds away with some of promos I get from my buddies in Europe.

LFOD: What is currently cooking up in your studio kitchen? What releases/remixes can we look forward to?

Brian: Well, there is actually quite a bit to look forward to. Just had my "Uturn" EP [Blog comment: BP Link - dope EP!] drop on Miles Dyson's label Plasma. Recently finished up a remix for aUtOdIdAkT and I am putting the final touches on one for Markus Lange. I have another electro EP as well as 2 tech house EPs ready for release. Label info coming soon. ;-) So make sure to keep checking for goodness.

LFOD: What else is planned for the future? You'll come back to germany or stay in the us?

Brian: Well, my goal is to move back to Germany in the future. It's just a question of when. But, for now, I will at least be visiting Germany soon! I will visiting all of my friends and playing a couple of gigs when I am there. Stuggi is one of my stops. ;-)

LFOD: When you get a remix request. With Which part of a track do you start?

Brian: That is a good question. There is really no exact part that I always start with. Really depends on the track. It is sometimes such a hard decision on what parts and how many parts of the original to use. For example, the aUtOdIdAkT remix I just did, I was so worried i hadn't used enough of the original. But he loved it.

LFOD: How big are the influences of blogs in the us?

Brian: They aren't quite as big of an influence here. In the bigger cities, yes. But not everywhere.

LFOD: Regarding blogs: love or hate?

Brian: Absolute LOVE! It's a great way to keep up with the music and talent from all over the world. Live Free Or Die is always one of my stops when I surf the blog world.

LFOD: Thanx mate!

LFOD XCLUSIVE: Interview w/ DISTRAKT

Yall remember this crazy night?

LFOD: So Mr. Worthington, how's it goin in Australia? Have u already rocked Parklife?

DISTRAKT: yeah unfortunatly i didnt play there which is definatly on my list of things to do as its my home festival and a great vibe . it was amazing , soulwax and 2many djs where great and also of course brodinski . one man who doesnt get enufff credit here . !

LFOD: Let's talk about your upcoming almost-an-album release on Mähtrasher. What can we expect from the original tracks?

DISTRAKT: As it says in the promo for the release " The Deep Throat EP is futuristic techno with nastier and filthier sounds than your snoring grandpa backed by a whole armada of dentist tools!!
i feel its really big powerfull kinda shit that will make u say " oh fck what is this " and then go home with bleeding noses and hopefully from other places.

LFOD: Which of them is your favorite track?

DISTRAKT: its very hard to pick one but i love "DEEP THROAT" And also "ANGST" Both of these are some of my favourte i have ever done

LFOD: Who did you get for remixing the originals?

DISTRAKT: well i got some close friends and also some people who i feel honoured are on the release like . Nobody beats the drum and also Shameboy , also we have THE Oddword and also rawfare & super super

LFOD: Which is your favorite remix in the EP?

DISTRAKT: I would have to say the , Nobody beats the drum . big room or festival thrasher that is going to fucking people sideways i hope .

LFOD: Can you already call a release date for this monster EP?

DISTRAKT: the release will be on november 25 in all digital stores

LFOD: You've been lately all around the world playing shows. Which was the sickest party you have ever djed yet? Kaputtraven maybe?? ;)

DISTRAKT: yeh i got back from my last tour around 3 month ago now and the affect of Kaputtraven are stilll in my mind . . this is the best party i have played at . and to be playing alongside G-tronic who i have known for around 3 years now and Zombie nation who is really a ledgend of the industry . but we killed him so maybe he doesnt like us :D

LFOD: Beside that new EP, what else do you have in the making? Any new remixes we should watch out for?

DISTRAKT: i have just had around 3 remixes come out for Boxon Records , N.E.W.S for Shameboy which was Battery acid remix which i love , Just working on more originals and also lot of remixes comming up also so keep a eye out for them ...

LFOD: Busy P lately said in an interview that this heavy and destructioning sound to which we jump'n'rave is going to die. Do you share this thought or is this just one single man's opinion?

DISTRAKT: My opinion is that it will be around for a long time yet . the music is so fucking powerfull , people just want to grab something and throw that at people . jump around , its just such a crazy vibe , at the kaputtraven party there where young kids chanting and just going mental , breaking toilets onto the ground it was like a proper riot in a club . . i hope to get back there soon !! i have some rumours about something happening for those guys and there party in the next year so keep a eye out !!!!!!

LFOD: What are your current Top 5 tracks?

DISTRAKT:
1. Kleine Träume - D.I.M
2. Distrakt - Deep Throat (Nobody beats the drum Remix)
3. aUtOdiDakT - neiii
4. Hemska Tanke -Tomas Andersson
5. ANGST - DISTRAKT

LFOD: Which artists do you find interesting and noticeable at the moment?

DISTRAKT: WELL the odvious people like boys noize who im always shocked by as i everyone , but shameboy have really impressed me with there live stuff and also nobody beats the drum and dj antention who did a remix for me but unfortunalty i cant release it for certain reasons . he is blowing people away with his bass and there are dozens more but i just ccant go on :-|

LFOD: and the closing words are yours:

DISTRAKT:"IVE ALREADY FUCKED U . . U JUST HAVENT REALISED YET !!!!!

INTERVIEW w/ TAI

Beat Down EP Preview : http://soundcloud.com/dimmak/tai-beat-down-ep-preview

LFOD: Auf welche Acts fährst du so derzeit ab?

TAI:

LFOD: Die Gretchen Frage: Blogs - Love Or Hate? ;)

TAI:

TAI:
Vielen Dank fürs haben!!!

MOOMBAHTON! Q&A w/ Dave Nada + many awesome free tracks!

LFOD: What is Moombahton?

DAVE: moombahton used to be just slowed down dutch/tropical house records edited to give a reggaeton vibe. now it's starting to develop into a new monster. basically think electronic dance vs bass vs reggaeton vs dancehall at around 108 bpm with lots of latin influences. you can see it in the name too..."moombah" is the afrojack remix/house music reference and "ton" is the reggaeton/latin reference. a fun new marriage of sound. i feel that moombahton offers a different energy to dance music culture. as a dj, it's pretty refreshing to play.

LFOD: How come that you started producing this kind of music?

DAVE: it was a total accident. the short version of the story is that i was djing my cousin's skipping party (where you skip school to go to a party) and everyone was dancing to reggaeton and loving it. all i had were my house records, and i didn't want to fuck up the vibe and piss off the crowd, so i slowed my records down to reggaeton tempo and the kids went crazy. after seeing that, i started to make edits to try out them out on tours and they started going over really well. T&A records released those edits as 2 promo EPs (Moombahton & Punk Rock Latino). It took off like crazy and now i'm producing original moombahton tracks along with moombahton remixes. Nadastrom is focusing on making original moombahton tracks now as well.

LFOD: Best way to dance to Moombahton?

DAVE: grab a partner and get your grind on! haha. i've been getting tons of great feedback saying moombahton is very sexy and fun to dance too. i think it's because it's very tropical and not as intense to dance to like most electronic dance music, which usually plays around 126 bpm to 140bpm. it may not be as fast but the energy of moombahton is big and i feel like that's what drives it home for most people in the club.

LFOD: Is a bigger release yet planed? Like an album or compilation?

DAVE: i've got some big plans that i can't talk about just yet, but Nadastrom is collaborating with Munchi, a young gifted producer from Rotterdam who we think is taking the genre to a new exciting level. Nadastrom is working on an album at the moment and there will definitely be some moombahton in there.

LFOD: Who are other noticeable Moombahton Making acts?

DAVE: Munchi is definitely raising the production bar for moombahton. i'm also really feeling A-Mac, The Philadelphyinz, Heartbreak, DJ Melo, Sabo from NYC, and Sonido Rampage & Nader. These are my personal faves, but there are lots of upcoming producers making quality edits and original moombahton that i play out in my sets. Even highly acclaimed producers like Lazaro Casanova and Diplo are making moombahton!

Thanks Dave!

Also, GET YOUR GRIND ON ;)

Hammer Gut!

Tracklist (Download - Track and then RCSA):

It's all about MashUps and Bass!

Tracklist (Download - Track and then RCSA):
or if you want to preview the tracks, STREAM here.

Viel Spaß beim Hören und thanx for tuning in!

INTERVIEW: The Proxy

Allright guys!
A couple of days ago I sent out an email to MAKO Records, i.e. Proxy's new record label, with the request to interview the man himself Proxy. I went nuts as I read that they let me do the interview so I sent out a couple of questions about Proxy's debut album, himself and most of all about the new record label and everything around it.

Sadly a few questions around the upcoming debut etc. got rejected so it became quite a short interview but I got some super hot infos on Mako Records and the sovjet-studio bunker^^ Have fun reading it!

LIVE FREE OR DIE: First of all, let's talk about your brand new record label Mako Records. Tell the readers a little bit about it. Which artists have u signed? What kind of sound can we expect from it?

PROXY: As you might know, this label Mako Records is a very new project, just born. So we ll see how things ll go with it. For now, we have already signed Polymorphic, Marseille, the Mould , Noize Invaders and more to follow. They all have a great and particular sound= sound of the future ! This is what we want to bring on !

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Have u already got plans for the future of the label? Will u try to keep it somehow small, consisting around 10-15 artists all of the same style, somehow like Ed Banger? Or do want to keep it expanding with all sorts of music like Dim Mak? Or is there something completly different planed?

PROXY: We don’t have such big plans! We want to keep it our way: We ll release different kind of music: actually I would call it music for all souls!

LIVE FREE OR DIE: The first EP on Mako Records is by Marseille, another great producer from Russia. What can we expect from the EP? Will it be somehow an exposé of what the label sounds like?

PROXY: It s a dirty experimental techno, that I think is really missing in Russia. It brings an intressting cold atmosphere.

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Can you already give us a sneak peak on future releases on the label?

PROXY: The second release will be The Mould with 4 killers tracks ! Then we ll have the EP of Noise Invaders. We actually have good hope for that one. And then…let s just keep it secret!

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Last questions on Mako Records: Is a Mako label compilation (like Kitsune Maison/Ed Rec/DimMak Evolution) already planed?

PROXY: Not planed yet. We are now more focusing on the image of the Mako Records and on our new signed artists. But why not a compilation, maybe later?

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Tell us something about your studio. It looks like a abandonned KGB/ Sovjet bunker, is it one?!

PROXY: The place looks like a bunker: all walls are black. But in fact it s a quiet normal building, but studio is located in the lowest floor. I m very happy that we have finished all house work. Since 2 years it s all done, but it was a long 3 years process.

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Thanks for the interview!

Hope you enjoyed the interview and might keep visiting this site :))

P.S.: The rejected questions (mainly about the album) will be asked via Turbo ;)

Peace

INTERVIEW: Mr. F & Mr. S of MR. WEEKEND

LIVE FREE OR DIE XCLUSIVE PICS

LIVE FREE OR DIE: So Jungs!

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Wieso gerade der AER Club?

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Wir hatten bis jetzt ja 2 steile Partys. Wir bewertet ihr die letzten Veranstaltungen? Was wollt ihr besser machen/was hättet ihr anders gemacht?

MR.

MR. S: was,wer kommt :D

MR. F: :D hahaha überraschung Mr.S :D

Do you hate 'em or luv 'em?

MR. S: very important!

MR.

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Was haltet ihr von unserer kleinen Stuttgarter NuRave Szene?

MR. S: die Kelly Family

MR. F: :D The Bloody Beetroots is sicher gut ansonsten mal sehen

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Ok. Super vielen dank Jungs!

Ansonsten gabs Release Technisch nicht so wirklich was besonders erwähnenswertes.

INTERVIEW x SPOT ON x Support your local ppl: Jacky Ory

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Wie bist du zum Fotografieren gekommen?

JACKY ORY:

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Welche Dinge beeinflussen dich in deiner Arbeit?

JACKY ORY:

Kreative Leute um mich herum. Die ganze Welt in ihrer Einzigartigkeit.

LIVE FREE OR DIE: Wo liegt deine eigentliche Intension? Willst etwas bestimmtes ausdrücken?

JACKY ORY:

Thats it!

Stay tuned!
